About

Merevale and Blyth Estates are the landowners of both the Holly Lane and Whittington Farm sites (H1 and H2 allocations respectively), and will work together with relevant stakeholders and housebuilders to deliver a sustainable and coherent community extension to the north-west of Atherstone.

The proposals at Whittington Farm will provide for approximately 1,350 new homes including affordable housing and elderly persons provision alongside a new community hub with supporting infrastructure such as a new primary school, health facility, village hall and other uses to support the day-to-day needs of the community.

Significant areas of open space will also be provided that will include informal green infrastructure links to the River Anker and biodiversity net gain alongside allotments, orchards, and equipped areas of play for the community to enjoy.

Active Travel routes designed for walking and cycling will promote environmentally friendly and health-conscious ways of travel within the site and to the wider area including Grendon, Baddesley, and Atherstone Town Centre.

We are keen to involve local people in shaping our ideas for the development of this allocated development site that is identified in the North Warwickshire Borough Local Plan (adopted 2021). This website provides details of the emerging proposals for the site. You can leave any comments you may have about the proposals on the Consultation page.

The Need for Development

Nationally we are facing a growing housing shortage as people are living longer and in smaller households. There are not enough homes being built to meet the demand and as a result there is a need to boost the supply of new homes. Demand for housing in Atherstone is high. North Warwickshire Borough Council therefore needs to ensure that new homes are provided to meet the needs of existing and future residents. To meet this need, the Council have allocated the site at Whittington Farm in their Local Plan as a sustainable location for residential development for a minimum of 1,280 dwellings.

The Whittington Farm site was chosen by North Warwickshire Borough Council to assist the delivery of these future housing requirements in a sustainable way because the site is well related to the existing settlement and is within easy reach of a range of services and facilities.
